The developers of EVE Online, an MMO produced by Icelanders CCP, hold a bi-annual Alliance Tournament. Over six days and two weekends, up to 700 players take part in a structured tournament to decide the winning team on the final day.
My role was leading the EVE TV team in the filming of the entire event, and streaming it live over the internet. My main tasks included:
- Hosting the broadcasts live.
- Organisation of a cast of experts and guests for live broadcasts of between three and six hours.
- Leading discussion live with cast about the tournament itself, as well as other pertinent issues.
- Recruitment of volunteers as cast and crew from a pool of players who applied to be on the show for the event, including organising the accommodation and logistics of getting people to Iceland from all over the world.
- Set design, construction, and maintenance.
- Handling submitted material for inclusion into the broadcast.
- Liasing with clients to ensure we created and delivered the exact show format they wished for; both initial contact and ongoing relations during and after the event.
- Liasing with the streaming server company.
